The Weekly Puig: First Edition

There may not be a more polarizing player in all of baseball than that of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig. You’d be hard-pressed to find an athlete anywhere in the sports world that garners the type of love/hate emotions from fans than that of the Cuban product. We here at The Outside Corner fall into the former. That is, we love Yasiel Puig. And each week from now until the Dodgers inevitably fall short of expectations, we will be bringing you the week in Yasiel Puig.

(Which will mostly just be a compilation of bat flips.)

The headline for the week of May 11th is obviously the promotional night at Dodger Stadium that saw fans take home a Yasiel Puig bobblehead. This is what that gem looked like:

The bobblehead is intriguing for a couple of different reasons. First of all, it inspired some dugout activity from the club that involved this sort of thing:

God bless you, Adrian Gonzalez.

In addition to the antics of the Dodgers’ first baseman, the bobblehead itself is really quite something. Not only is a Puig bobblehead enough to rile up fans, the object itself gets even more intriguing when a quick glance at said bobblehead gives off the impression that Yasiel Puig may or may not be bestowing the middle finger in each direction.

At the end of the day, the Puig bobblehead really is rather standard, but it does allow thousands working the 9-5 to show the people in the cubicle on either side of them how they really feel about them, whether Puig is actually flipping off the masses or not.

Also, this is how Puig described his feelings about the bobblehead.

While the attention fell on the giveaway itself, the night of May 13th did give the organization a chance to celebrate their star outfielder entirely, and not just by handing out figures of him with an enlarged head. That included his mother being in attendance to throw out the first pitch:

And here’s Yasiel and mom in a post-pitch pose:

Bat flipping when trailing 7-0 to one of the league’s worst clubs? Why not.
