First Will Smith and Jada Pinkett separate (allegedly) and now Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly are breaking up? Doesn’t anyone believe in love anymore? Really, I don’t know if I can go on. I promised myself… I wasn’t going to cry. Here, read the details on the story via JustJared.com while I try and regain my composure:
“The split was amicable,” sources exclusively tell JJ of the 37-year-old Yankees superstar and 31-year-old actress. “But they remain friends. They still really care for each other.”
When JJ contacted her reps, they did confirm the split.
I know the story said the break up was “amicable,” but I’m sure most Boston Red Sox fans will assume that Jeter dumped Minka now that gay marriage is legal in New York, so he no longer needs a beard.
But seriously, folks, this is great news for everyone involved. Jeter should be just fine since he has dumped uber-babes on a nearly annual basis his whole career, so Yankee fans shouldn’t be too concerned about him getting all blubbery and emotional as he pines for his long lost Minka in the middle of the playoffs. As for Minka, well, she is still a super hot actress with a brand spanking new TV series, Charlie’s Angels, premiering this fall, so I’m sure she’ll land on her feet.
But the real winners here are baseball fans. Kelly obviously is very easy on the eyes, but I think we can all thank our lucky stars that every Yankee playoff game broadcast will now not include an unnecessary cutaway shot to Minka mugging for the camera three times every half inning.
Now if we could just figure out how to get Joe Buck and Tim McCarver to break up as a broadcasting tandem, we’d be all set.
