According to the Miami New Times, Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart may be in hot water after a private Twitter exchange was leaked indicating that Cosart is heavily into sports gambling of some sort:
Cosart’s troubles started last night with a gambling expert on Twitter alleging he’d direct messaged a colleague asking for betting advice. Cosart later deleted his own account as tweets piled up accusing him of gambling and speculating whether he’d ever bet on baseball, which would be a serious violation of the game’s rules.
Here is the Twitter conversation in question:

It isn’t clear if Cosart ever bet on baseball, but the exchange has been noticed by MLB and they are now investigating Cosart as betting on the game remains the cardinal sin of baseball.
Even if Cosart isn’t betting on baseball, this isn’t a good look. As Cosart allegedly wrote, he bets “LARGE” and guys that bet large often end up in “LARGE” debt, which can put a player in a bad position where he might be coerced into influencing a game to appease the people he is in debt to. That’s a pretty dark scenario, but MLB will surely want to make sure they step in and nip this in the bud before it becomes any kind of real scandal.
