The Kansas City Royals were once again involved in a benches clearing incident on Thursday night, and Yordano Ventura was again at the center of the chaos with the Chicago White Sox.
In the bottom the seventh inning, Ventura forced Adam Eaton to hit a comebacker to the mound for the third out. As he was going to toss the ball to Eric Hosmer at first base, Ventura very blatantly shouted a profanity at Eaton. Then, all hell broke loose.
Ventura, Edinson Volquez, and Lorenzo Cain were ejected for Kansas City, while the White Sox lost Jeff Samardzija and Chris Sale.
It’s April 23rd, and the Royals have now been involved in incidents with three different teams – the Angels, Athletics, and now, the White Sox. The only team Kansas City has played this season and *hasn’t* had issues with is the Minnesota Twins, and I’m sure Torii Hunter will eventually lose his mind for one reason or another.
The common thread in all of these incidents is, of course, the Royals and more specifically, Yordano Ventura. Ventura has gotten into it with Mike Trout, Brett Lawrie, and Adam Eaton this season.
I think this clip from Justified just about sums up what’s been going on with this team and this starting pitcher.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the centerpiece in all of these incidents has been the same. It’s time for Yordano Ventura to grow up and mature a little bit – you’re not that good. MLB, you took it easy on Ventura after the Lawrie incident this weekend – the hammer needs to be dropped this time around.
