The Miami Marlins could be losing their damn mind.
According to SiriusXM’s Craig Mish, the belief around baseball and within the Marlins organization is that Jose Fernandez will be traded this offseason. Yes, you read that correctly.
Growing sentiment around Baseball and internally with the @marlins is Jose Fernandez will be traded this offseason.

This news comes after reports of Marlins team president David Samson publicly calling out Fernandez’s agent Scott Boras after he criticized the Marlins organization for their handling of another one of his other clients, Marcell Ozuna. Sampson told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Boras “.. will not be involved in any discussion as it relates to Jose Fernandez. We will be in touch with the doctors and Jose as we formulate a plan.”
Regardless of the mudslinging between the organization and Boras, trading Fernandez would an insane proposition to even consider. The 23-year-old righty is already one of the best in the game, and his career numbers are nothing but dominant. In 47 career starts since 2013, Fernandez has posted a 22-9 record, a 2.40 ERA, and a staggering 336 strikeouts in 289 innings. He missed most of 2014 and 2015 recovering from Tommy John surgery, but when he returned midway last season, he didn’t miss a beat. Given his age and career trajectory, there’s no doubt Fernandez is on the path to becoming one of the game’s best – if not the best – pitcher in baseball.
From the Marlins perspective, the only logical reason to trade Fernandez is if they’re sure they’ll never get an extension done. Even then, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Fernandez is scheduled to hit free agency in 2019, so Miami still has plenty of control. Trading him now would certainly give the team assets, but there’s no way they get a player with the potential impact Fernandez can make. It goes without saying, but every team in the league should be interested if Mish’s report is accurate.
There are conflicting accounts on Fernandez being available.
Two highly placed sources tell me Jose Fernandez is not being shopped or discussed to be shopped. Will that changes, who knows? #Marlins

But, let’s remember this is the Marlins we are talking about, and if anybody is going to take away one of the few things fans are looking forward too, it’s them, even if it’s as insane as trading Fernandez.
