Mike Fiers no-hits the Dodgers

On Friday night, Houston Astros starter Mike Fiers threw the fifth no-hitter of the 2015 season, blanking the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0. Fiers struck out ten, walked three, and threw 134 pitches during the no-hitter.

This is Houston’s first since a combined no-hitter at Yankee Stadium in 2003 and the first by a single pitcher for the Astros since the late Darryl Kile in 1993.

Coincidentally, this was Chase Utley’s first game with the Dodgers. He was the DH for Los Angeles this evening, and went 0/4.

In addition to being the first no-hitter of Fiers’ career, it was also the first complete game of his career. He was the “other guy” that went to Houston in last month’s Carlos Gomez trade.

This is also the fifth no-hitter of the 2015 season, with Fiers following in the footsteps of Chris Heston, Max Scherzer, Cole Hamels, and Hisashi Iwakuma. The most no-hitters thrown in the modern era in one season is seven, last achieved in 2012.
