Mets acquire Addison Reed from Diamondbacks

THE METS. ARE. GOING. FOR IT!

On Saturday, the NL East leaders acquired Addison Reed from the Arizona Diamondbacks, pending a physical.

The 26-year old Reed has a 4.20 ERA in 40 2/3 innings this year, his second in Arozna, to go along with 34 strikeouts and 14 walks. However, Reed was banished to the minors for much of June and July, and since returning to the majors, he has a 1.65 ERA in 16 1/3 innings, striking out 14 and walking three.

Reed is also technically not a rental for the Mets – he’s still eligible for arbitration in both 2016 and 2017, but considering his $4.875 million salary this season, he seems likely to be non-tendered after the year.

The Diamondbacks originally acquired Reed from the White Sox before the 2015 season in exchange for infield prospect Matt Davidson, who has struggled with his new organization.

Reed joins a Mets bullpen that includes shutdown closer Jeurys Familia and trade deadline acquisition Tyler Clippard, and will further bolster a pen that has been one of the best in the National League this season.

So, it’s come to this – one team in New York is solidifying their team for a playoff run, and it’s not the Yankees – it’s the Mets.
