The longest home runs for the week ending September 10th

Another week, another Statcast controversy. On September 6th, Kris Bryant obliterated a home run off of Rubby de la Rosa (which you’ll see in a bit today). Despite all of the underlying data being identical, Statcast measured the homer at 495 feet. ESPN’s Home Run Tracker, which we use here at TOC, measured the homer at “just” 467 feet. Back in April, Statcast said this Nelson Cruz homer was 483 feet, which is completely and utterly ridiculous.

Anyway. Here’s THE LIST this week, using the ESPN HR Tracker numbers as usual.

1. Jung Ho Kang vs Collin Balester, 476 feet (September 8th)

Left center, second deck at Great American Ballpark. Take a bow, Jung ho Kang.

2. Kris Bryant vs Rubby de la Rosa, 467 feet (September 6th)

While it may not have actually been 495 feet, this homer by Bryant was clearly destroyed.

3. JP Arencibia vs Randy Wolf, 462 feet (September 7th)

Has anyone ever gotten up to that concourse at Comerica? Arencibia came pretty damn close here.

4t. Jose Abreu vs Jeremy Guthrie, 453 feet (September 4th)

This Jose Abreu dinger didn’t go for a bath…but it’s still impressive!

4t. Bryce Harper vs Julio Teheran, 453 feet (September 4th)

And Statcast has an estimate seven feet *shorter* than HR Tracker for this homer…I give up.
