ESPN releases 30 for 30 Short about the Giants’ Crazy Crab

The latest ESPN 30 for 30 Short has been released, and it’s a ridiculous 12 minute exploration of the San Francisco Giants’ anti-mascot – the Crazy Crab.

In response to the mascot craze of the 70s and 80s, the Giants introduced an anti-mascot, the Crazy Crab, and essentially encouraged their fans to abuse it. The Crab lasted a year, and the man in the suit (Wayne Doba) ended up suing the Padres (and settling out of court for $2,000) after players injured his back.

I love this. It’s informative, hilarious, and mind-boggling. Could you ever imagine something like this happening in the year 2015? “Hey fans, here’s a mascot! Throw stuff at it! Have fun!”
