Another great week of walk offs is in the book, and we’ve got replays, homers, doubles, and everything else in between.
May 6th, Reds vs Red Sox – Grady’s back.
The return of Grady Sizemore is finally complete – he’s got a walk off hit with the Red Sox. There wasn’t really much of anything that any of the Reds outfielders could have done with this ball either – it was hit in an awful spot to make a play on.
May 6th, Pirates vs Giants – the walk off replay.
This is now the third time we’ve posted this video on the site. I don’t care. It was incredible.
May 9th, Rockies vs Cubs – Votto does more than just walk.
There is a sector of baseball fans that gives Joey Votto an incredible amount of crap for being too passive at the plate. Well, how’s this for passive – a golf shot, walk off homer on a 3-0 pitch. You should probably just let Joey do what Joey wants.
May 9th, Cubs vs Braves – Freeman brings Heyward home.
Watching Jason Heyward run is a thing of beauty. He trucked it from second to home on this single by Freddie Freeman, and there was nothing Ryan Kalish could do about it. He would have had to been playing extremely shallow and not hesitated for a split second with his throw to even have a chance at Heyward.
May 10th, Astros vs Orioles – hey, that’s not Matt Wieters!
J.J. Hardy probably shouldn’t have scored on this double by Steve Clevenger, who is getting most of the reps behind the plate for the Orioles with Matt Wieters banged up. But the ball took some funny hops in the right field corner, and George Springer’s throw was mishandled by cut off man Jose Altuve. Hardy beat the throw, and that was that for this one.
May 10th, Nationals vs Athletics – capping the comeback.
After the A’s rallied back to tie this game at two in the ninth, they won it in the tenth after John Jaso just missed a walk off homer. There wasn’t even much of an effort by Nate McLouth either, as he was down at the base of the wall while the ball rolled towards the infield. Aaaaaand cue the pie for Jaso.
