This week, we’ve got double plays, game-savers, and some history that was saved.
June 12th, Diamondbacks vs Astros – George Springer can fly.
Not once, but twice. Springer’s defense has been much better than I expected. I think the best part of the way he’s played in the field this season is how quickly he gets into a position to throw after laying out.
June 14th, Angels vs Braves – Kole Calhoun saves the game.
This catch from Kole Calhoun *literally* saved the game for the Angels – the bases were loaded and there were two outs in the tenth inning of a tie game. If this ball falls, the Braves win. It fell alright – into Calhoun’s glove. The Angels would eventually pick up the victory.
June 16th, Royals vs Tigers – Lorenzo Cain, full extension.
Whew, this was one hell of a catch by Cain. This sinking liner by J.D. Martinez was well on its way to being a triple before Cain intervened.
June 17th, Twins vs Red Sox – BROCKHOLT
Look at where Holt was when this ball was hit by Brian Dozier. Look at where he caught the ball. That’s absurd, and to think, this was his first career game in center field. If only the damn camera wasn’t focused on Jonny Gomes the whole time…
June 18th, Royals vs Tigers – poor J.D. Martinez
J.D. Martinez gets robbed of a hit again, this time by the fantastic Alex Gordon in left. Kansas City’s defense is pretty, pretty great.
June 18th, Rockies vs Dodgers – Miguel Rojas saves Kershaw’s bacon.
Hanley Ramirez cost Clayton Kershaw a perfect game with his silly error in the seventh inning. A couple of batters later, Miguel Rojas saved Kershaw’s no-hitter by gunning out Troy Tulowitzki. Phew.
