921 days. Two years, six months and nine days.
That’s how long Grady Sizemore went between at bats in Major League Baseball. Playing in his first MLB game since Sept. 22, 2011, the Boston Red Sox’s starting center fielder and sixth hitter on Opening Day singled in his first at bat.
You would have to go back another 79 days from Sept. 22, 2011, or two months and seven days, to Sizemore’s last home run. In his second at bat on Monday, he literally cracked a home run.

Not a bad comeback for a guy who hadn’t faced MLB pitching in a regular season game in over two years as a result of various injuries, including microfracture surgeries on both knees. A finally-healthy Sizemore beat out Red Sox prospect Jackie Bradley Jr. for the starting gig this spring and thus, keeping in mind his history with the Cleveland Indians, he was widely considered a decent sleeper in fantasy leagues.
