Albert Pujols joins the 500 home run club

April 22, 2014.

Taylor Jordan.

Nationals Park.

Those are the three major factors that will go down in history in relation to Albert Pujols becoming the 26th member of the 500 home run club. The fifth inning, two-run homer off of Jordan was given a standing ovation and a curtain call by the Nationals fanbase at Nationals Park. He’s the third-youngest player to reach that plateau, following Jimmie Fox and He Who Shall Not Be Named (Alex Rodriguez, of course).

Pujols is 21 homers away from entering the top 20 all-time in home runs, and it’s not a stretch to think he could get there this season with the way he’s been hitting.

Congratulations, Albert.
