After the Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks to win the NL West title on Thursday afternoon, they celebrated in the only way a team knows how to at Chase Field – by jumping in the pool located in right center field.
Naturally, this had led to a sizable backlash on Twitter, and even from the Diamondbacks themselves. When Jon Heyman is making a rational point about the situation, you know things are pretty overblown. Like Heyman said – maybe beat the team so they don't have the opportunity *to* clinch on your field and jump in your ridiculous pool in the outfield.
Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall wasn't pleased.
"I could call it disrespectful and classless, but they don't have a beautiful pool at their old park and must have really wanted to see what one was like."
Oh for the love of god, really? The Diamondbacks are averaging nearly 20,000 fewer fans per game than the Dodgers despite Dodger Stadium being an "old park". Maybe that pool doesn't really drag in the fans like you'd want, huh Derrick?
Gritty Diamondbacks utility player Willie Bloomquist was also displeased.
"I think it's tired and disrespectful," Bloomquist said. "It's surprising, because they have a lot of veteran guys on that team that I thought were classier than that."
It's surprising that the team was happy and wanted to celebrate? It's tired that the team had fun with the stupid novelty act at the ballpark? Spoken just like a guy who has played one postseason series in his 12 year career!
