Miguel Cabrera, Andrew McCutchen win MVP awards

Miguel Cabrera and Andrew McCutchen were announced as the 2013 Most Valuable Players on Thursday night.

It's the second award in a row for Cabrera in the American League. The 2012 MVP hit .348/.442/636 in 2013, homering 44 times and driving in 137 runs. He received 23 of 30 first place votes and 385 points to win the award. Mike Trout of the Angels was once again the runner-up to Cabrera, picking up five first place votes and 282 points. Chris Davis of the Orioles finished third, earning one first place vote and 232 points. Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson received the final first place vote and finished fourth with 222 points.

McCutchen is the first Pirate to win the award since Barry Bonds in 1992. In 2013, he hit .317/.404/.508 with 21 home runs and 27 stolen bases while leading the Pirates to their first playoff appearance since 1992. McCutchen received 28 of 30 first place votes and 409 points to run away with the voting. Paul Goldschmidt of the Diamondbacks finished second with 242 points, while Yadier Molina of the Cardinals was in third with the other two first place votes and 219 points. Molina's Cardinals teammate Matt Carpenter finished fourth with 194 points.
