Perhaps you’ve heard that the new movie “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” opened in theaters this week. And, bear with me here, perhaps you’ve seen a little bit of promotion for the latest chapter in the saga of Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy. This is news to you, I’m sure. Well, we have another addition to the “Anchorman 2” promotion anthology with this hilarious video from the good folks over at the MLB Fan Cave in which Tampa Bay Rays star Evan Longoria quizzes the cast of the new movie on various baseball terms. You will not immediately regret the decision to watch the two-minute video.
The bit works thanks to the good mix of real baseball knowledge — mainly noted famous sports fan Ferrell and a little bit from Kansas City fan Paul Rudd (Brian Fantana) — and good-natured silliness from the rest of the cast, especially David Koechner (Champ Kind). Steve Carell (Brick Tamland) wins my MVP for best straight man, particularly in the segment on five tool players. “Toothpick, for some reason, toothpick and tweezers,” says Carell. (Spoiler alert: the cast of the movie didn’t even get three of the five tools, but they did get screwdriver, level and the aforementioned toothpick and tweezers). Even Baxter gets in on the fun, dropping a reference to RC/27 in his closing remarks (barked, of course).
From “Grand Salami” (“In the movies, it’s what Carell keeps in his pants,” Rudd jokes) to “Chin Music” (“Is that some sort of weird thing you guys do in the locker room?” asks Christina Applegate/Veronica Corningstone), don’t act like you’re not impressed.
