ESPN has to use Eric Young Jr to advertise Sunday Night Baseball

On ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball this week, the Mets will take on the Nationals. It's not really a marquee matchup to begin with, but these things happen. But the Mets' recent misfortunes have placed ESPN in a tough position. Check out the above screengrab from Chase Hughes of CSN Washington.

That's right: Eric Young Jr is the featured player for the Mets. Matt Harvey's season is over thanks to his partially torn UCL. David Wright has been on the DL for nearly a month with a strained hamstring. Marlon Byrd and John Buck are now Pirates. So…Eric Young Jr gets the call from ESPN. Since coming over to the Mets from the Rockies, Young is hitting .248/.325/.322 with one home run and 21 stolen bases. In August, he's hitting .207/.263/.261.

But let's be honest, I'm not sure if I can really be that upset with ESPN here. After all, Young *is* third among hitters on the active Mets' roster in fWAR. Actually, that's pretty sad. Oh, the poor Mets and their fans…
