Dugout Digest – Winter Meetings

The MLB Winter Meetings are underway down in Orlando, and our Amanda Rykoff is on the scene providing coverage. Here's what's gone on during a busy week so far.

-The Hall of Fame announced part of the Class of 2014 – Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa, and Joe Torre.
Roy Halladay retired, and Amanda grabbed some quotes from his former manager in Toronto, John Gibbons.
-Randy explored the possibility of the Baltimore Orioles signing a big name, high-priced free agent.
-Randy also took a look at possible landing spots for Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija.
-I attempted to answer why the Phillies would consider trading Domonic Brown.
-Amanda recapped Joe Maddon's Monday press conference.
-Garrett wondered about the Diamondbacks' confusing strategy in searching for outfielders, which culminated in the team acquiring Mark Trumbo. Amanda attempted to provide some logic for the move from Arizona's point of view, and then recapped the press conference involving the three GMs involved in the trade.
Rajai Davis got two years and between $9 and $10 million from the Tigers.
-Ian considered the possibility of the Indians trading Asdrubal Cabrera and/or Justin Masterson.
-The Athletics sent Brett Anderson to Colorado for Drew Pomeranz.
Curtis Granderson was introduced as a Met.

And…exhale. We've got lots more coverage from Florida coming this week, as well as other news and analysis pieces – and you *know* there are going to be more moves for us to talk about and break down.

Enjoy your offseason, everyone.

Dugout Digest – winter meetings

Welcome one, and welcome all, to the 2012 MLB Winter Meetings in luxurious…Nashville? Yeah, Nashville. Anyway, the Winter Meetings every year are where all of the GMs around baseball meet and talk shop, and plenty of contracts and trades get done around this time of year. Last year, Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson signed with the Angels within something like a half hour of each other. So yeah, things are going to be happening this week, and we'll obviously be on the ball with all of the events of the Winter Meetings.

But over the weekend, we actually had some moves already fall into place. Mariano Rivera will be back with the Yankees in 2013. The Braves and Angels swapped Tommy Hanson and Jordan Walden. The nontender deadline has came and gone, and many recognizable names are on the list…we'll have more on that today. Finally, we saw the Kyuji Fujikawa derby come to an end, with the Cubs emerging as surprise winners over the Angels.

Enjoy the offseason, everyone.
