Dugout Digest – the end of a dream

The Pittsburgh Pirates' dream season is over. The Bucs lost 6-1 to the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLDS on Wednesday night, sending St Louis to the NLCS for the third straight year. But man, what a season for the Pirates. 94 wins, a Postseason berth, and the revival of baseball in Pittsburgh is something pretty strong to hang your hat on.

PIC OF THE DAY

Justin Wilson sums up the feelings of Pirates fans everywhere on Thursday morning. (Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports)

Joe Girardi is staying with the Yankees, so sorry Cubs fans: you're going to have to look somewhere else. Five observations from the Red Sox series victory over the Rays in the ALDS. Here's the post-mortem for those Rays, too. Ultra classy Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers wants his pitchers to throw at more hitters.

Today, we've got our final Division Series game. Justin Verlander starts for the Tigers in Oakland against rookie Sonny Gray at 8:07 PM on TBS. The winner will head to Boston for Game 1 on Saturday.

Enjoy your day of Postseason baseball, everyone.
