Dugout Digest – last call

The Detroit Tigers have been pushed to the brink of elimination in the ALCS after their 4-3 loss on Thursday night in Game 5. Despite an incredible catch from Jose Iglesias, the Tigers couldn't break through and get the lead in this one.

PIC OF THE DAY

Big Papi loves himself some Koji (Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports)

Speaking of Koji, Garrett talked about how all four Playoff teams left in the race don't have a "proven closer". Gasp! Staying on the Koji train, I looked at the best and worst one-year contracts from last winter – one of which is Boston's shutdown closer. And hey, one more loosely-related to Koji note – Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan is retiring on Halloween. You'll remember that Texas traded Chris Davis for Uehara in 2011 and let him walk as a free agent this winter.

Today, we'll have Game 6 of the NLCS. The Cardinals once again look to punch their ticket to the Fall Classic, but it won't be easy as rookie Michael Wacha takes on all-world Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw at 8:30 PM on TBS.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
