Dugout Digest – final four

We've got our final four teams left in the MLB season – the Cardinals, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Tigers. Detroit punched their ticket to the ALCS on Thursday night, beating Oakland 3-0 behing another dominant effort from Justin Verlander.

Yesterday, we saw the best umpire third strike call *ever*. New TOC staffer Ben Heisler looked at possible managerial openinngs across the league, and the best fits for each. Jaymes has five observations from the Cardinals-Pirates NLDS, and the Pirates got the Post-Mortem treatment. Walter White from Breaking Bad was almost a Phillies fan.

Tonight, Game 1 of the NLCS is going down in St Louis. Joe Kelly will get the nod for the Cardinals, while Zack Greinke toes the rubber for the Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 8:37 PM on TBS.

Dugout Digest – final four

We have our four LCS participants: the San Francisco Giants, St Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers. How were our final two decided? Well, their games were…absolutely not what anyone expected at all.

–Yankees 3, Orioles 1
–Cardinals 9, Nationals 7

To summarize, for those who don't want to click the links and went to bed early last night…the Yankees won behind a gorgeous pitching performance behind CC Sabathia, and the Nationals blew a 6-0 lead, allowing four Cardinals runs in the ninth to complete an epic collapse.

Yesterday around here at TOC, you missed the end of season post-mortems for Thursday's eliminated teams, the A's and Reds. Also, observations from the Tigers-A's ALDS and Giants-Reds NLDS were also posted. Today, both of those series will be continued with the end of season post-mortems for the Orioles and Nationals, and observations from the Yankees-Orioles ALDS and the Cardinals-Nationals NLDS.

Just one game today, as we kick the ALCS off on Saturday and the NLCS off on Sunday.
