Dugout Digest – doldrums

This part of the winter sucks. It's generally too early for free agents to be signed or trades to be made and we're left with a bunch of half-rumors and contract extensions. For example, David DeJesus re-upping in Tampa, or Martin Perez solidifying his presence in Texas.

We're also getting into awards season, and MLB announced the Silver Slugger winners to acclaim from…no one, really. The final piece of the managerial puzzle was also placed after the Cubs hired Rick Renteria. Instant replay also began in the Arizona Fall League, while George Brett threatened an autograph seeker and ESPN profiled the husband and wife team that made MLB's schedules for more than 20 years.

Also, we've nearly finished our Offseason Primers. touching on the Padres, Cubs, Giants, Diamondbacks, Pirates, Nationals, and Reds. Today, we're going to finish it off with the Dodgers, Cardinals, and Braves, along with breaking down some more free agent rumors.

Enjoy your offseason, everyone.
