Cardinals legend Stan Musial passes away at 92

The St Louis Cardinals fanbase is the second one to lose a legend today, as Baseball Hall of Famer Stan Musial has passed away at age 92. Musial is the second Hall of Famer we've lost this weekend, following the passing of former Baltimore Orioles manage Earl Weaver yesterday evening.

Musial was one of the greatest players in baseball history, winning three MVP awards by age 27, and finishing as runner-up four other times during his 22 year career, all of which was spent with the Cardinals. Musial finished his career with a .331/.417/.559 statline with 475 homers and 3630 hits, the fourth-highest total of all-time.

Musial was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969 in his first year on the ballot, collecting 93.9% of the vote. He was a 20-time All-Star for the National League, along with a seven-time batting champion. He was a member of three Cardinals World Championship teams (1942, 1944, 1946), and quite frankly, was one of the greatest players in baseball history. Musial remains the career leader in total bases by a left-handed hitter, and was the first player in baseball history to record both 300 homers and 3000 hits.

Rest in peace, Stan the Man.
