Carl Pavano, you've got company. Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Bryce Brentz won't be in major league camp with the team this spring because of an offseason injury he suffered. OK, that's completely normal, these things happen every so often. Except Brentz's injury isn't exactly run of the mill: he shot himself through his leg while cleaning his gun.
I'm not going to use this post to make any statements about gun rights or ownership, but this takes the cake for "most ridiculous injury" I've seen in quite awhile. Good for him for cleaning his gun and maintaining it, but it was pretty careless for him to make sure it wasn't loaded before cleaning it so that something like this happened.
At the end of the day, he avoided serious inury, but this could have been a lot worse for his career and his life. Imagine if the gun discharged and shattered a bone in his leg, or even worse, hit the femoral artery and caused him to bleed out.
So in the future, Bryce…just be a little more careful, alright?
