23-year old Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte, the organization's fourth ranked prospect coming into the year, made his major league debut tonight for the Pirates, leading off and playing left field. On the first pitch that Marte saw from Houston Astros' starter Dallas Keuchel, he yanked a home run to left center field.
A successful first week in the majors will be huge for Marte and the Pirates, who are apparently shopping for an outfielder to complement all-world MVP candidate Andrew McCutchen, and help alleviate some of the stress that has come from seeing Jose Tabata and Alex Presley struggling for most of the year in the outfield for Pittsburgh.
