Ortiz re-ups with Red Sox for two years

We all figured this one was coming, but now it's official: David Ortiz will remain in Boston. The DH signed a two year, $26 million deal that had been rumored all day before finally being confirmed on Friday night.

After the Red Sox offered Ortiz a qualifying offer of $13.3 million earlier today, you had to imagine a deal would get done for somewhere in that general vicinity of salary. Ortiz made $14.575 million last year after accepting Boston's offer of arbitration and settling at that midpoint.

Ortiz, who will turn 37 this month, only played in 90 games last year while dealing with an Achilles injury. But while healthy, he was as productive as ever, hitting 23 home runs and posting a 1.026 OPS and accumulating 3.0 fWAR. Even in that 90 game sample, he was worth his salary last season, and if he's healthy in 2013, he'll likely continue to earn his salary in the middle of Boston's order.
