Jered Weaver’s bathroom break defies superstition

When a pitcher is in the midst of throwing a no-hitter, there are a number of superstitions that start to come into play. Teammates should not talk to the pitcher. A pitcher should follow the same routine, sit in the same spot on the bench, pick the same nostril and try to keep a clear head throughout the game. Oh yeah, the pitcher should keep throwing awesome, too.

So you can only imagine the angst Jered Weaver created when he jumped up and ran to the clubhouse just before taking the mound in the ninth inning of a no-hitter. Just listen in to MLB Network’s concern for the livelihood of Weaver’s first career no-hitter:

Luckily, Weaver breaking the seal didn’t play any role in breaking up this no-hitter, because you just know everyone would’ve been talking about it if it did.
