Dugout Digest – World Series

The World Series begins today…finally. The last series of the year has arrived, and in the next four to seven games, we're going to have our champion of baseball. We'll have a full preview of the series between the Tigers and Giants coming later today.

But what else have you missed today? After the Cardinals were eliminated on Monday evening, we posted their post-mortem yesterday, and posted five observations from the Giants-Cardinals NLCS. Also, we continued the free agent preview series with looks at the Twins, Indians, and Marlins. And then in some more news-based items, the Marlins fired Ozzie Guillen and Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk was arrested in a cornfield for DUI.

Now, the fun stuff: World Series Game One will start at 8 PM in San Francisco. Justin Verlander will (obviously) get the start for the Tigers against Barry ZIto for the Giants. Verlaner has been an unstoppable freight train in his three playoff starts this postseason, while Zito struggled in his outing against the Reds before shutting down the Cardinals in his second start.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
