Dugout Digest – two more

Oh, you thought we were done with the Division Series? Not so fast my friend! While the Giants and Tigers clinched spots in the League Championship Series, there are still two more spots left, and they will be decided in a pair of game fives TONIGHT in Washington and New York.

Giants 6, Reds 4
Nationals 2, Cardinals 1
Orioles 2, Yankees 1 (13 innings)
Tigers 6, A's 0

The Giants moved on due in part to a huge fifth inning offensively and a failure to capitalize with runners in scoring position by the Reds. This key Angel Pagan catch didn't hurt San Francisco's cause too much either. The Nationals and Cardinals engaged in a brilliant pitchers duel that saw one of the most talked about Nationals players (that isn't getting talked about much lately) deliver a walk-off win for the team while their phenom continues to struggle. The Yankees and Orioles continued their battle of attrition for the right to move on to the ALCS, and Baltimore prevailed tonight. Finally, on the west coast…Justin Verlander. Need I say more?

Two games today, and those two games will decide the final two teams in the League Championship Series.

-Orioles vs Yankees, 5:07 PM. Jason Hammel vs CC Sabathia. (2-2)
-Cardinals vs Nationals, 8:37 PM. Adam Wainwright vs Gio Gonzalez. (2-2)

Remember: post-mortems will be coming today for the newly eliminated Reds and A's, along with a look back at each of the completed Division Series matchups, a feature we'll be rolling out for all of the playoff series this October.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
