After our grueling regular season and a vicious set of playoffs that has seen five of six series go the full complement of games, we have our World Series matchup. It'll be the National League champion San Francisco Giants taking on the American League champion Detroit Tigers. It's the Giants' second pennant in three years, and they're looking for their second title in that same time as well. As for the Tigers, they last won the pennant in 2006 (when they lost in five games to the Cardinals), and they last won the World Series in 1984, when a squad led by late manager Sparky Anderson, Kirk Gibson, and Jack Morris beat the Padres in five games.
The series will begin on Wednesday, so the next two days around TOC will serve as more of a preview/prep day with our usual offseason previews mixing in there as well. We've started our Free Agent Primers with our top ten catchers on the market. We also kicked off our Free Agent Preview series by looking at the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and Colorado Rockies.
And just a parting note here on the DD…did you miss Sergio Romo's celebration last night after the Giants clinched the pennant? If so, give that link a click. Romo did the Gangnam Style dance on the mound at AT&T Park in front of 43,000 fans and millions of people watching on television, and the dance has officially jumped the shark.
Enjoy your day of baseball (discussion), everyone.
