Dugout Digest – one game

Well, we still don't have a National League champion after the Giants beat the Cardinals 6-1 last night. San Francisco used a fantastic start from Ryan Vogelsong and some timely hitting to keep the Cardinals at bay, and the National League will come down to game seven, tonight by the bay.

Giants 6, Cardinals 1

I'm sure that today you're going to see a lot of talk about each team's record in elimination games. The Cardinals went 6-0 in elimination games in 2011 and 2012 (so far), and will be looking to run that record to 7-0 with a win tonight. As for the Giants, well they're 5-0 just this season after falling down 2-0 to the Reds in the Division Series and 3-1 to the Cardinals in this LCS. The Giants missed the playoffs last season, and didn't face elimination at all during their 2010 World Championship run. Something's gotta give.

Around the corner yesterday, you didn't miss much aside from the news that 18-year old Japanese pitcher Shohei Otani would be skipping the amateur draft in Japan and heading right to America. The floodgates are officially open. Today, we have the beginning of our free agent primers and a new offseason featured called the Offseason Shopping List, which will essentially serve as a free agency preview for all 30 teams.

But that all takes a backseat to the one game on the schedule today.

-Cardinals vs Giants, 8:00 PM. Kyle Lohse vs Matt Cain (3-3)

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
