Dugout Digest – officially official

With the announcements of the Cy Young awards on Wednesday and the MVP awards on Thursday, we are officially in full-blown offseason mode. The 2012 season is in our rear-view mirror, and we have nothing to do but look forward to 2013 with the shaping of rosters for each team through trades and free agency.

The Tigers have already started molding their team as they look to win a second straight AL pennant next year, signing Torii Hunter, an extremely coveted target for many teams, for two years. There was also a lot of fallout on Wednesday from the blockbuster Marlins-Blue Jays trade. Miami is once again building towards a future that has a murky outlook, while the Blue Jays have pushed their stack of chips into the middle of the table. We also have a potential bidding war in the NL East between the Phillies and Braves for BJ Upton, which could quickly turn hairy for either club.

Enjoy your offseason, everyone.
