Dugout Digest – blowouts and walkoffs

Yesterday was a solid day of baseball, right? Well, the two daytime games were pretty drab (unless you're a Cardinals or Giants fan), but the two nighttime games were absolutely unbelievable.

Cardinals 8, Nationals 0
Giants 8, Reds 3
Yankees 3, Orioles 2 (12 innings)
A's 4, Tigers 3

Where does this leave us? Well…in the same place as it did yesterday, with four games on the table today. However, unlike yesterday, two series (Giants-Reds and Tigers-A's) will be ending today, since it's game five in each series. As for the other two series…well, they can end, but none of us would want that.

The A's playoff success this year could have an adverse effect on their future, even if they keep winning games in ridiculous fashion like they did last night. The ghosts of Yankee Stadium are out again, even if the old stadium is no longer there. Plus, there are endless discussions about a pitcher with a season-ending injury winning a playoff game, a phenom struggling and looking like a werewolf (or something), a spot starter that got hammered, and a two-time Cy Young winner as a starter in the bullpen. Yep, sounds like October baseball to me!

Today's games are as follows…

-Giants vs Reds, 1:07 PM. Matt Cain vs Mat Latos (2-2)
-Cardinals vs Nationals, 4:07 PM. Kyle Lohse vs Ross Detwiler (2-1 Cardinals)
-Orioles vs Yankees, 7:37 PM. Joe Saunders vs Phil Hughes (2-1 Yankees)
-Tigers vs A's, 9:37 PM. Justin Verlander vs Jarrod Parker (2-2)

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
