Andrew Cashner injures thumb dressing meat, may miss start of 2013 season

The day after Cubs manager Dale Sveum revealed he was injured in a hunting accident involving Baseball Hall of Famer Robin Yount, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner will likely miss the beginning of the 2013 season after lacerating a tendon in his thumb while dressing meat after a hunting trip.

Cashner, an avid hunter, and a friend were apparently trimming a carcass when the injury occured. I'm not sure if this injury is going to jump the Sveum hunting incident for the most bizarre injury of the offseason, but it sure is up there.

Cashner, acquired by the Padres from the Cubs last winter, will likely begin the season on the DL for the Padres along with other injured starting pitchers Cory Luebke and Joe Wieland, both recovering from Tommy John surgery last season. Just when you think things couldn't get worse in San Diego…here we are!
