Yankees and Tigers Postponed After Nine Outs

Tonight’s Yankees and Tigers game has been postponed in the middle of the second inning. The game will pick up tomorrow evening at the regularly scheduled time at 8:37 PM. Game two has been pushed back to Sunday at 3:07 PM. Games three, four and five will be on their regularly scheduled days with no off days remaining in the series.

Now, what the hell does this mean for the Tigers and Yankees? It absolutely sucks for them. Will the teams run their aces out again tomorrow? I doubt it. They could come back on short rest for game three on Monday, but is that a gamble the teams want to take? We could be seeing Brad Penny and AJ Burnett go tomorrow in a Florida Marlins reunion.

I think this hurts the Tigers more than the Yankees. If the team opts to let Verlander pitch tomorrow, he’d be unavailable for the rest of the series. With the Yankees saying they’d be giving Sabathia two starts, he could pitch tomorrow, as well as game five if it came to that.

We should learn more tomorrow. Until then, enjoy the National League team and series previews tomorrow, as well as recaps for all of the games on the slate.

UPDATE: Ivan Nova is pitching tomorrow for the Yankees, with Freddy Garcia going on Sunday. This comes courtesy of Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Twitter.

UPDATE 2: Doug Fister is starting tomorrow for Detroit, with Max Scherzer starting on Sunday and Verlander back to the hill in game three. This is from Buster Olney of ESPN on Twitter.
