The New White Sox Manager is….Robin Ventura?

News just broke on the Twitterz, saying that the newest White Sox manager wouldn’t be an experienced major league hand….but instead, former ChiSox third baseman Robin Ventura. In this piece on MLB.com, White Sox GM Kenny Williams says that experience wasn’t a prerequisite for the job. Much like when Ozzie Guillen was hired, Ventura has never managed a game.

In this piece, it’s revealed that Ventura had some ankle problems and had problems walking without the assistance of a cane. He’s now walking just fine after surgery, and was spending his time doing some college baseball analysis for ESPNU, and was a *volunteer assistant coach* at a southern California high school.

The Ventura hiring was clearly based on his reputation as a player with the White Sox. He had a career .805 OPS during his ten years in Chicago, and was generally pretty well liked. But whenever I heard the name “Robin Ventura”, this is what I’ll be thinking of.

I’m sorry Chicago. Your new manager got the smack laid down on him by an old man. Well, I’m sure the White Sox-Rangers games in 2012 will mean something now, huh?
