Soldier Surprises Wife at Minor League Baseball Game

During the course of my four years in local television news, I covered many a soldier coming home to his wife.

It was a sight that was always enough to warm the coldest depths of your heart, a welcome reprieve from the crime scenes and local politics that generally dominate the small market news cycle.

But of all the homecomings I covered, I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed one nearly as cool as this one at a Mississippi Braves game.

The setup is ingenius. NBC affiliate WPTV reports that Harlow had been working on the scheme with his daughters for about two weeks. As you can see, he came through in the clutch.

His wife Darla and their kids won tickets to a game. Just prior to the start of said game, Darla was “randomly selected” to throw out the first pitch. So she approached the mound, stares down the catcher who is wearing a facemask (for the record, rarely if ever do ceremonial first pitch catchers don any kind of equipment).

Little does she know the man behind the mask is Mark, her beloved husband who she hadn’t seen in 9 months. Her reaction as he approaches the mound and she realizes it’s him…yeah, it’s good stuff.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone. We’ll be around to let you know if something breaks in the world of baseball.
