Dugout Digest – Ryan Braun is awesome

We touched on this last night, but Ryan Braun was dominant last night in Milwaukee’s 8-3 win over San Diego. He homered three times, and tripled for the hell of it too. Braun scored three runs and drove in six, and his OPS for the season is now at .994. Last season, when Braun won […]

Ryan Braun hits 3 HR at Petco Park

It’s kind of hard to believe that the reigning NL MVP and four-time All Star, Ryan Braun, had never hit three home runs in a single game before Monday night. It might be harder to believe that Braun finally accomplished the feat at the extremely pitcher-friendly PETCO Park (334-401-396-400-322′):  Ryan Braun just became the first […]

Tigers’ Delmon Young suspended for 7 days following arrest

Delmon Young was arrested last Friday for an incident that occurred outside the team’s hotel during which Young allegedly shoved a guy and shouted anti-Semitic remarks. Young was charged with aggravated harassment in the second degree, a misdemeanor with a hate crime element and later released on $5,000 bail.  Dave Dombrowski spoke to the media […]

Evan Longoria exits Monday’s game with left knee injury

Evan Longoria made his second attempt to reach his 2011 steals total (3) on Monday night, but his left knee prevented him from getting there.  Longoria was caught stealing for the third time this year and injured his knee in the process, forcing him to exit early from the Rays’ 3-2 win over the Mariners on […]

Series Spotlight: Orioles at Yankees (April 30-May 2)

The Baltimore Orioles really weren’t, and quite frankly, they’re still not, expected to be a contender in the American League this season. But here we are on the final day of April, and the Orioles are in first place in the AL East with a 14-8 record. They’ve got the same record as the Rays, […]

Minor League Monday: All Grown Up

(Um…Jurickson? You’re playing shortstop, not pitcher.) An Ode To Michael Nelson Trout Oh, Mike. What fun we had in…what, three weeks? You were my #1 guy. My shining star on this list. The anti-Vernon Wells. And now, here you stand. A man of 20, four months away from being able to drink legally in the […]

Dugout Digest – the Phillies offense is *bad*

The Philadelphia Phillies lost 5-1 to the Chicago Cubs yesterday in a game that saw the Phililes get just two hits. For the season, they’ve scored just 70 runs, fourth worst in baseball. Their .635 OPS is 25th in the league, and their .288 OBP is third worst in baseball. Here’s the thing about the […]

Diamondbacks move Collmenter to bullpen, promote Corbin

The Arizona Diamondbacks made a long-anticipated move by sending starter Josh Collmenter to the bullpen. However, instead of replacing him with top prospects Trevor Bauer or Tyler Skaggs, they went with the third best starter down in AA Mobile: Pat Corbin. Earlier this week, I talked about the possibility of Arizona shifting Collmenter out of […]

VIDEO: Bryce Harper’s first MLB hit

In case you weren’t tipped off on it enough, Bryce Harper made his Major League debut Saturday night against the LA Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The game certainly lived up to the marvelous fanfare: Stephen Strasburg threw a gem; Harper played as great as you could ask from a 19-year-old kid in his first big […]

Dugout Digest – the phenoms have arrived

Going into Saturday’s game, eyes around baseball were focued on two players: Bryce Harper of the Nationals, and Mike Trout of the Angels. This was Harper’s first action in the show, but Trout had received a brief callup last year for the Angels. Their expectations were not necessarily met. Playing left field and batting seventh, […]

Dugout Digest – the most useless cycle ever

Scott Hairston of the Mets hit for the cycle last night, and he did it by the end of the sixth inning. That’s pretty impressive. What else is pretty impressive is that Hairston’s Mets lost the game….18-9. The last team to lose when they had a player who hit for the cycle was when Kelly […]

Angels release Bobby Abreu, call up Mike Trout

Bill Shaikin of the LA Times is reporting that the Angels have released DH Bobby Abreu. April 28, 2012 Abreu’s first two seasons in Los Angeles were pretty successful. He had an .825 OPS, 15 homers, and 30 steals in 2009. In 2010, his OPS dropped to .787, but he hit 20 homers and stole […]

Nationals to promote Bryce Harper on Saturday

The day is finally upon us. The Washington Nationals are calling up uber prospect Bryce Harper on Saturday. On Sat., the Nationals will place 3B Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-Day DL & recall OF Bryce Harper, who will make his MLB debut at Dodger Stadium — Nationals PR (@NationalsPR)

Series Spotlight: Rays at Rangers (April 27-29)

Each of these two teams is at the top of their division (the Rays are tied with Baltimore, which is shocking), while the Rangers one up the Rays by holding the best record in baseball at 15-4, and already have a +55 run differential. The Rangers look like the class of baseball right now, while […]
