Tuesday night’s game between the Oakland A’s and Cleveland Indians was postponed due to rain.
Rainouts happen, but not at Oakland’s O.co Coliseum.
It is the first rained-out game at the Coliseum since May 5, 1998 vs. the Detroit Tigers! Almost 16 years! Ricky Henderson was batting leadoff for the team at that time.
Tuesday’s game will be made up on Wednesday as part of a day-night doubleheader. It will be the first day-night doubleheader in the Coliseum’s history. A’s beat writer Jane Lee says the A’s will toy around with their rotation as a result of the postponement, calling up a 26th man for the second game.
Daniel Straily, who was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday but will now pitch Friday, pointed out on Twitter that he was nine years old the last time a game was rained out in Oakland. Given the frequency of rainouts in 162-game seasons, it’s kind of incredible it has been that long for the A’s in their home. I mean, their stadium has flooded sewage more times than that in the last two seasons.
