Alex Morgan only threw out one pitch for the Kansas City Royals, and while technically it didn’t count, she became, by default, the best looking pitcher the 2011 Royals have ran out to the hill at Kauffman Stadium.
The US Women’s National Team soccer star was invited to throw out the first pitch prior to tonight’s Royals-White Sox game. Had the team promoted her appearance farther in advance, I’m willing to bet the otherwise meaningless game would have sold out in seconds, but that’s just me editorializing for a brief moment.
Morgan, who wore her traditional No. 13 which is normally worn by Royals’ catcher Salvador Perez (not that anyone outside of Perez’s immediate family and friends know that), and her teammates are in town for a friendly against Canada on Saturday night.
The Royals’ official front office blog reports she was returning the favor done by Royals pitchers Aaron Crow, Louis Coleman and first baseman Eric Hosmer. The three players stopped by a USWNT practice the day before, with Crow and Coleman offering her a couple of tips on how to throw a perfect pitch.
Seriously, look at her form. She’s a natural for crying out loud.
According to the USWNT official Twitter feed, Morgan didn’t quite hit the strike zone with her toss but did reportedly throw off the mound. And while I’m sure her pitch won’t endear her to any scouts, her um…effort likely endeared her to all the players and fans in attendance. After all, I mean just look at her in that jersey. She certainly does a better job of rocking it than Perez (or likely anyone else on the planet) does.
