When you’re winning, 40 grown men can buy matching cowboy outfits, make silly poses, and not look ridiculous.
Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan, who is rapidly becoming my favorite baseball player of all time, just tweeted this picture of the Crew dressed in their finest Western wear. The team is heading to St. Louis for a pivotal three-game series against the Cardinals and decided to have a little fun en route.
So what’s the inspiration?
Per MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy:
“It’s not about staying loose for the Cardinals,” left fielder Ryan Braun said. “It’s just staying loose in general. By this time in the season everything has been the same for months. Same routine, same travel, same collared shirt. It’s a good time to mix things up a little.”
McCalvy also went on to report that Nyjer Morgan’s gentleman alter-ego got a new name for the day — instead of Tony Plush, Morgan transformed into Tony Tombstone, looking positively resplendent in his cowboy hat and blue jeans.
When you’re 9.5 games up in the standings in September, these are the things you can get away with, folks.
