Dugout Digest – the real offseason

Well, this kind of sucks – the baseball season is really over. On Wednesday, the Cy Young Award winners were announced (Scherzer, Kershaw), and on Thursday, the MVP winners were announced (Cabrera, McCutchen). In more quasi-awards news, the NL Rookie of the Year and third place finisher in NL Cy Young voting Jose Fernandez was reunited with his grandmother this week and it was awesome.

In free agent news, Nick Punto is now a member of the A's – and it works. The catching market could be bolstered by a potential trade of Orioles backstop Matt Wieters. The Blue Jays also might be in the market for a bench bat now after the retirement of Mark DeRosa.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
