For the first time in history, a World Series game ended on a pickoff. Koji Uehara nabbed Kolten Wong straying off of first base for the 27th Cardinals out of the game.
I have no idea why Wong was even screwing around with taking a substantial lead, considering that A) the Red Sox were winning by two runs and Wong was the only runner on base, and B) Carlos Beltran, the greatest Postseason hitter in baseball history, was at the plate. Beltran didn't even swing the bat, taking the first two pitches from Uehara before Wong got picked off.
It was brutal decision-making from the 23-year old Wong, and a situation he'll likely be replaying over and over in his head.
