Brian Wilson is in the news…again. The current Dodgers reliever, who made his bacon in San Francisco as part of their two World Series winning teams, confronted Giants CEO Larry Baer after the Dodgers' 3-2 loss on Thursday night about his World Series ring from last year.
According to a report from CSN Bay Area, Wilson is angry that he still hasn't gotten his World Series ring, which is completely understandable given that it's the end of September. But of course, there's more to the story than that.
Giants vice president Staci Slaughter said that not only did the team invite Wilson to the ring ceremony in April, but they also have attempted to arrange a meeting with Wilson over the past seven months and were ignored. And it wasn't just interns that were trying to get in touch with Wilson – Baer, manager Bruce Bochy, and VP Bobby Evans all reached out to Wilson and received no response.
"It's disappointing. It's unfortunate. It's bizarre, really," Slaughter said. "This organization really has tried to do the right thing and I don't know where this is coming from. It wasn't for a lack of effort on our part. Larry, Bobby, Bochy — everybody has made an effort to reach out to him."
The admittedly frustrated Giants ended up just giving Wilson's ring to a Dodgers staffer on Thursday, ending the saga.
Wilson seems like one of those guys who loves to make mountains out of molehills. From all accounts, the major issue with Wilson not getting his ring lies not with Baer, but with Wilson. It's not as if the Giants were holding the ring and refused to give it to Wilson – they wanted him to have it! Sometimes, you just can't win, and that's appears to be the situation that the Giants were in with this ring situation. Nothing they did would be good enough for Wilson.
