During Monday night's Yankees-Orioles game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, things got heated after the first inning between Yankees manager Joe Girardi and Orioles manager Buck Showalter.
Apparently, Girardi was talking to Orioles third base coach Bobby Dickerson in a less than pleasant tone, offending Showalter. Showalter stormed out of the dugout and started yelling at Girardi, leading to home plate umpire Ed Hickox holding back Showalter and Yankees bench coach Tony Pena holding back Girardi as both managers jawed on the field.
Cooler heads would eventually prevail, but this is clearly a critical matchup between the AL East rivals. Coming into action on Monday, the Orioles were two games back of the Rays for the AL's second wild card spot, while the Yankees were 2.5 back of Tampa Bay.
UPDATE: Girardi shed no light on the situation after the game, but Showalter said he believed that Girardi was accusing Dickerson of stealing signs. Hoo boy.
