Last night was just one of those weird nights in baseball. I’m pretty sure there was a full moon or some sort of celestial alignment happening in the distant galaxies to cause what we saw around the majors. Packey already broke down this insane infield triple from last night’s M’s/A’s tilt… but that may have not even been the zaniest video from that game!
This video from Seattle is not the first time that an idiot fan has reached down into the field of play to pick up a fair ball. However, it is the first time that an Ichiro impersonator has reached down into the field of play to pick up a fair ball.
No way! Dude! I love M’s play by play man Dave Sims’ reaction of bemusement towards this doppelganging dope. If you’re going to take the risk of going through the whole Ichiro lookalike charade AND get a front row seat to show it off to the world… you can’t do that. Another wacky video from MLB.com comes from New York where kidcaster Jacob Resnick got the chance to live out a kid’s dream (if your hero is Gary Cohen of course) and call a Jose Reyes home run…
Even though he sounds like a screeching Taylor Swift, I would strongly encourage Fox to sign him to a long term contract right now. He’s way better than Joe Buck and Dick Stockton.
And that doesn’t even address the roller coaster that was Cardinals/Brewers last night, including beanballing Albert Pujols and Ryan Braun and Yadier Molina losing his mind or Tony La Russa doing the same after the game. It was that kind of night…
In actual baseball games: The Cards won that wild game in Milwaukee 8-7, Boston walked off with a win against Cleveland, and the Yankees won a rare 6 1/2 inning game against the White Sox. Full scoreboard here.
On the docket tonight: Edwin Jackson takes the mound for the Cardinals against Randy Wolf, Roy Halladay goes for the Phillies at Coors Field, and the best pitching matchup of the night may be Villanueva vs Shields in the battle for 3rd place in the AL East. Full schedule here.
