MLB issued a release today informing the world that next season, Roberto Clemente Day will be celebrated with a two-game set between the Marlins and Pirates in Puerto Rico. Presumably, this has everything to do with Clemente being a former Pirate, and also, a Puerto Rican.
Though under the radar in comparison to Jackie Robinson Day, Roberto Clemente Day has been going on for 14 years, and will celebrate its 15th year of existence in 2016. The game will be played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, and serves as the MLB’s fifth regular season foray into Puerto Rico — a supplier of more than a few MLB stars.
Here’s a bit more information on the game, and Roberto Clemente Day. Hopefully you already know who Roberto Clemente is.
