Joe West is a terrible, attention whore of an umpire. During Thursday night’s Giants-Padres game, Bumgarner walked Jedd Gyorko in the sixth inning.
A frustrated Bumgarner yelled at himself, and home plate umpire West took exception (because that’s what he does). The two then began a staredown, which resulted in something you rarely see.
Joe West broke.
The staredown lasted 17 seconds.

Bumgarner also threw some shade at West after the game, via the Mercury News.
“Joe was behind the plate?” he said. “I don’t pay attention to the umpires. I didn’t even realize he was back there.”
I’m very glad that all of the Giants and Padres fans who came out to Petco Park to see their hero, Joe West, were able to see a performance for the ages. Unfortunately, he was on the losing ends of things.
