Following Jake Arrieta’s no-hitter, Cubs hit the road in pajamas

August has been very good for the Chicago Cubs. With one day remaining in the month, the team has compiled a 19-8 record and built a 5.5 game lead for the NL’s second wild-card spot. And on Sunday night, pitcher Jake Arrieta built on his case for the NL Cy Young Award, throwing a no-hitter over the Dodgers in a 2-0 victory.

But if the pressure of being in the playoff race and looking toward the postseason is building for this young club, the players didn’t look that way on their way out of Chavez Ravine Sunday night. It was pajama party time for the Cubs as they hit the road back to Chicago.

This is familiar work from Cubs manager Joe Maddon who often had his team dress up on a road trip during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Rays. Past themes have included formal attire, Woodstock, plaid blazers and cowboy gear.

How did Kris Bryant not get the Superman pajamas here? That seems like a swing and a miss.
