Dugout Digest – offseason movement

Well, there was no baseball on Saturday…sad face. BUT, that doesn't mean that the day was dominated by college football. The Marlins, Diamondbacks, and A's completed a three team trade that sent Heath Bell to the Diamondbacks and Chris Young to the A's, and the Red Sox finally pried John Farrell away from the Blue Jays, hiring him to be their new manager in exchange for shortstop Mike Aviles. There were a lot of other smaller rumblings around the league, but nothing as significant as those two transactions.

But tonight, we *will* have baseball, at the small cost of Fox's Sunday animation block. I'm sure most of us will be occupied with The Walking Dead, Dexter, and Homeland, but keep an eye on the Cardinals and Giants in game six of the NLCS.

-Cardinals vs Giants, 7:30 PM. Chris Carpenter vs Ryan Vogelsong (3-2 Cardinals)

After Friday's big 5-0 win by the Giants, the NL West champions have a little bit of momentum on their side, especially with Vogelsong starting tonight. Vogelsong and the Giants beat Carpenter and the Cardinals in game two in San Francisco 7-1 last Monday, and another performance like that from the Giants would set up a game seven on Monday with San Francisco ace Matt Cain in the hill against Kyle Lohse. This series isn't over, folks.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
